Last year, $30 million of the Lottery revenue was directed to local police and firefighters' pensions.
INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 15, 2020) – The Hoosier Lottery continues to celebrate its 30th anniversary as Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Sarah Taylor announces that one Indiana winner claimed, as the trust named MuchLove2You – Dad, the $5.2 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot from the Oct. 16, 2019 drawing. Taylor presented the winner with their prize at Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis.
The winner, a born and raised Fort Wayne resident, United States Air Force veteran and International Harvester retiree, celebrated their birthday the day after the drawing not even knowing that they had already won. The winner, as they typically do, waited to check their tickets a couple of weeks after the drawing. As the winner was checking their numbers, they matched the first number and on through the fifth number. Being too afraid to look, the winner asked a family member to check it. Upon reviewing the numbers, the family member exclaimed, "It looks like you have all six!”
The two visited hoosierlottery.com to find out where the winning ticket was sold. They discovered that the winning ticket was purchased at the same Meijer store, located at 5909 Illinois Road in Fort Wayne, that the winner had purchased their ticket. Only one ticket matched all six numbers from the Oct. 16, 2019 drawing, and the winner had that ticket worth $5.2 million.
The winner took some time before coming to Hoosier Lottery Headquarters on Jan. 10, 2020, spending that time getting everything in order before claiming the jackpot prize. The winner had the choice to take payment of the $5.2 million as a 30-year annuity or a one-time lump sum payment, finally opting for the lump-sum cash option of $2.3 million before taxes. They have decided to create a family trust so that the winnings could benefit their loved ones for years to come.
