“Would you like any cash back – yes or no?” How the answer to this question created a $50,000 ripple effect
It is interesting how the answer to a single question can change your life. On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, William V. claimed a $50,000 top prize at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office in Indianapolis.

While getting ready to check out at his local Kroger grocery store, William was asked a question many hear after swiping a card for payment: “Would you like any cash back—yes or no?”

William answered yes. He asked for enough money to buy a couple Extreme Cash Scratch-offs at the Hoosier Lottery vending machine before he left the store. After he bought the tickets, he walked out of Kroger with his groceries in one hand—and Scratch-offs in the other.

“After I finished scratching the tickets, I ran over to my wife and had to do a quick sanity check. Am…am I reading this right?” he asked his wife. “She responded with a few ’Oh My’s’ and was really excited!”

Currently, William is planning on using the prize money for home renovations. “I will use the money to pay for replacement windows and I am looking forward to my next project,” he said. “The next project is probably going to be getting a new garage door or leaf guards for my gutters. After I finish that, I will probably have a treat yourself day with my wife!”

William V. is a resident of Indianapolis and works as a financial counselor. William prefers playing Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs.

Before he moved to Indianapolis, William won a Kansas Lottery Scratch-off prize that included a cash prize and two club-level season tickets and parking passes to every Kansas City Chiefs home game that season.
