When winning the Lottery is the second-best thing to happen to you this year
For most people winning a top prize on a Hoosier Lottery game would be the highlight of the year. However, there are certain moments that happen in your life that cannot be surpassed, such as welcoming a new member to your family. For Mary Ferguson of Rossville, Ind., winning $40,000 through a Holiday Scratch-off, is the second-best thing that happened to her in 2020.

Back in July, her daughter pleasantly surprised Ms. Ferguson with the news that they will be welcoming a grandchild into the world in the near future! “After adding a brand-new face to your family, it is hard to believe how things could get any better,” said Ferguson. “My year only became more memorable in the afternoon.”

Ms. Ferguson is a nurse for Guardian Angel Hospice. During her lunch hour, Mary stopped at Good to Go #22 in Frankfort, Ind., and purchased a Candy Cane Crossword Scratch-off. Mary walked into the local park, sat down on a bench and scratched her ticket. “I couldn’t believe my eyes. I just kept counting the words in the puzzle! I raced back to the retailer to confirm if I had won a top prize,” Mary exclaimed.

Mary first shared the good news with her husband and daughter.

As of now, Mary is planning on using the prize money to renovate her home and buy clothes for her new grandbaby.
