Jimmy Blewett of Seymour enjoys playing the Hoosier Lottery and especially likes to play Powerball® every week.

The day after the Powerball drawing, Jimmy stopped in a Hoosier Lottery retailer and asked the clerk to scan his ticket. “We can’t pay this here,” the clerk said.

Jokingly, Jimmy called his sister and told her he had won $50,000 – though he wasn’t sure how much he won. Shortly after their phone call, Jimmy’s sister got an alert on her phone that someone in Seymour had won $50,000 on a Powerball ticket purchased at the gas station Jimmy normally frequents.

“I told my coworker, ‘Oh my gosh, I have to leave and go see Jimmy. I think he really won $50,000,’” Jimmy’s sister recalls about when she began to realize her brother might have won.

Once Jimmy’s sister arrived at his house, she asked to see his ticket and called their niece to have her look up the numbers. As their niece read off the numbers, Jimmy and his sister realized he had matched all but one number and really had won $50,000!

“I think I may have been more excited than he was,” said Jimmy’s sister. The $50,000 win didn’t sink in for Jimmy until he claimed his prize in person at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office in Indianapolis.

Jimmy plans to save his prize money for now but is considering buying some new furniture with his winnings.
