A routine stop for gas turned into a $50,000 win for Camilo Garza. The Valparaiso resident is a maintenance supervisor at the University of Chicago and typically stops to get gas and a couple Powerball® tickets on his way home from work.

The day after a Powerball drawing, Camilo took a break from work to check his numbers. He scanned his tickets using the Hoosier Lottery’s app and was surprised when the screen displayed a message stating he would need to contact the Hoosier Lottery to claim his prize.

“Ooh, this is a good sign,” he thought.

Not knowing how much he won, he drove to the Hoosier Lottery’s office in Mishawaka and was thrilled to learn he won $50,000! Camilo didn’t even mind when he found out he needed to drive to the Lottery’s Prize Payment office in Indianapolis to claim his winnings.

With retirement in his near future, Camilo plans to use his prize money to purchase a fishing boat. Camilo and his wife enjoy outdoor activities, including fishing and camping in their RV, and look forward to having more time for those hobbies once Camilo retires.
