Powerball® win equates to $50,000 birthday present for winner from Mount Vernon

Wendy Kalsch and her husband like to play the Hoosier Lottery for entertainment. It’s something the Mount Vernon couple likes to do together on a weekly basis. One of them will pick up a Draw game ticket while getting groceries and they like to spend time together seeing if they’ve won. They typically play jackpot games like Mega Millions®, Powerball® or Hoosier Lotto® depending on which game has the highest jackpot at the time.

“I was putting gas in the truck and I heard her (Wendy) say something and she showed me her phone,” said Wendy’s husband. She scanned a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket. The couple couldn’t believe that they won!

This timing of the win couldn’t have been better with Wendy’s birthday falling the day after they claimed their $50,000 prize. The couple are also new grandparents and plan to contribute to a 529 plan for their grandson’s education using some of their prize money. The rest of the winnings will be spent on paying bills, savings and maybe just a little bit of fun.
