Matt Taylor of Columbus fondly looks back on his 45-year career at Duke Energy. Matt remembers bringing his three daughters to work with him and the service he provided to his community. He’s thankful for the steady income his job provided his family and continues to provide him now in retirement.

Matt is also a Vietnam veteran and has been very involved in his local American Legion chapter. He’s well known in his community and is often the first person people call for help. Matt is one to help anyone in need before himself.

While running errands with his friend, Matt’s friend told him how much he enjoyed playing the Hoosier Lottery. With his friend's guidance, Matt bought a few CA$H 5 tickets but misplaced them once he got home. The following week, Matt bought tickets again, but this time put them in a secure location and waited for the drawing.

After the drawing, Matt scanned his tickets with the Hoosier Lottery app and was surprised to see a message that his prize was too large to cash at a retailer. He drove to the Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis to claim his prize, not knowing how much he won. On the way, he called his daughter, who works next door to the Hoosier Lottery office, and asked her to meet him.

Confused why her father would be at the Hoosier Lottery office, she rushed over to join him.

“Dad, what are you doing here?” his daughter asked. “I won some money,” Matt explained.

A short while later, Matt and his daughter were informed that he had won the $223,928 CA$H 5 jackpot!

“I didn’t know I had won that much. I thought maybe $1,000 or something like that,” Matt said about the surprising win.

Matt appreciates the thrill and excitement of winning the jackpot but has no plans to spend the prize money on himself. Matt has three daughters and four grandchildren that wants to ensure they are taken care of today and in the future.
