Teresa and Eric Mossberger live in the small town of Garrett, just outside Auburn, and are good friends with their neighbors Samantha and Ken Lapato. One thing the foursome likes to do together is play Hoosier Lotto® with +Plus.

Teresa is in charge of buying the group’s tickets. On her way home from physical therapy one day, she noticed that the Auburn Fuel Mart wasn’t very busy and decided to make a quick stop to pick up some Hoosier Lotto with +Plus tickets.

The day after the drawing, Teresa used the Hoosier Lottery app to scan the group’s tickets and couldn’t believe her eyes when it showed they won the +Plus top prize of $1 million. Teresa said her first thought was, “That can’t be right.” To make sure, Teresa scanned the ticket again. “Well, to be honest, I scanned it 18 more times,” laughed Teresa. “I then uninstalled the app, reinstalled it and scanned the ticket again!”

Once she was finally convinced that they really had a winning ticket, she called her husband and told him, “You have to come home now.” When Eric got home, Teresa ran in from the kitchen, holding up her phone and yelling, “We did it! We did it!” They were both so excited that they didn’t sleep at all that night.

When Ken came over the next night, he told them he had seen a news article about a $1 million winning Hoosier Lotto with +Plus ticket that was sold in Auburn. He joked, “Sorry that wasn’t my million-dollar ticket!”

“Well,” said Eric, “actually it was.” He showed Ken the winning ticket, and Ken exclaimed, “What?! Get the heck out of here!”

Ken was anxious to share the news with his wife, but Samantha was in Michigan for the weekend. When she finally arrived home on Sunday, Ken excitedly showed her the app screen with their prize amount. “I saw the commas and cried,” said Samantha.

Both couples plan to use their winnings to pay off their debt and then save the rest for retirement.
