Clarksville woman celebrates $50,000 top prize win
Maria (Isabel) Arredondo, 24, from Clarksville, visited the Hoosier Lottery Headquarters the last week in October to celebrate and redeem her $30 Extreme Cash $50,000 top prize win.
Originally from Mexico, Maria has been in the United States for 12 years living in southern Indiana. She is starting a new pottery company with her father.
“I have only bought about five Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs in my life. My dad always plays them, so from time-to-time I want to find out what the fun is about.”
The day Maria purchased the winning Scratch-off, she was driving by Kroger and felt she should buy one. “I had $30 in cash, so I purchased a $30 Scratch-off.”
She immediately scratched the ticket and took it to the Kroger Service Desk to have it scanned by the employees. Maria feels she can read facial expressions well, and the employees were giving an indication that the Scratch-off was a big winner. While she did not know at that time exactly what the Scratch-off prize value was, she felt she needed to leave the store immediately.
Once Maria arrived at home, she showed her dad and boyfriend, and they used the Hoosier Lottery App to check the Scratch-off. Instantly, her dad got happy and crazy, “What are you going to do! You just won big!”
“My dad was more excited than I was. At first I was like, ‘Surprise! I won the lottery.’ Then, I started thinking, ‘Oh my, what am I going to do with the money.’ I still cannot believe it is real!”
Maria plans to give some of the money to her dad. “I will give some back to my dad because he has already done so much for me.” She also dreams of buying a house in Mexico someday.
Upon leaving the Hoosier Lottery Headquarters, Maria was asked if she would continue to play the Lottery. Her reply was simple and straightforward, “I will definitely be playing again. Oh yeah!”
