$50,000 Powerball prize makes Alexandria woman a first-time Hoosier Lottery winner

Mandy Kardatzke from Alexandria won $50,000 off of her Powerball^® ticket that she purchased at her local Casey’s on October 18! Mandy is a first-time Hoosier Lottery winner, and very excited about her experience. 

Mandy plays Powerball, Hoosier Lotto^®, and Mega Millions^®, and only occasionally plays Scratch-offs. The Powerball ticket that she won on was a Quick Pick. 

Mandy was sitting at her in-law’s house having dinner when she remembered she had not yet checked her tickets. Her father-in-law had just discovered our Hoosier Lottery App so he offered to scan her tickets for her, using the app on his phone. Once he scanned the tickets he said, “Mandy, you need to call the Hoosier Lottery office!” 

Mandy immediately thought something may be wrong with that ticket, but her father-in-law said, “Mandy, you just won $50,000!” 

Mandy immediately told him to quit joking around. He continued to tell her that he was not joking, and that she really won that amount. He handed her the phone, and she was in shock. Mandy went over to her parent’s house and told them the news. Her parents thought that it was a prank. She showed them on the app that it was real, and her mom started crying tears of joy.

Mandy works at Horner’s Grocery Store in Alexandria. Mandy plans to help fix up her parent’s house and provide her four kids an amazing Christmas this year using the prize money.
