Michael Moorehead of Valparaiso likes to play jackpot games when the amounts start to rise, so when the Powerball® jackpot started climbing toward record heights recently, he bought tickets. He usually buys his lottery tickets at the same gas station, but Michael happened to be at a liquor store and decided to go ahead and purchase tickets there.

The night of the drawing, Michael checked the Hoosier Lottery website to see whether he had matched any numbers. Four white balls and the Powerball matched, but he but wasn’t sure how much the prize would be. “I was still on the website and found where it said the prize was $50,000,” said Michael. “So, I locked the ticket in the safe and went to bed.”

When his wife got up the next morning, Michael told her about his win and she was very excited.

Michael is retired from a career as a marketing and business consultant and plans to use his winnings to travel.
