Ted Rutan and his friends were doing what they always do on a Sunday during football season—they were gathered at a local restaurant and bar to watch a few games—when they saw that the Powerball® jackpot had reached a record-setting amount. The friends started talking about the jackpot and how fun it would be to win. They soon decided to pool their money and buy tickets for the next drawing. Ted collected the money and set out to buy tickets, visiting a few nearby retailers.

After the drawing, one by one, those in the group started checking their numbers on the Hoosier Lottery app and website. Soon a group text was sent letting everyone know that they had won $50,000!

The group plans to continue watching football together and play Powerball together again in the future.
