Winner Stories
Robert Spieth is enjoying retirement after a 46-year career at Essex Wire. He lives in the tiny town of Hoagland, just south of Fort Wayne, and likes to play Powerball® for fun.
He typically buys tickets when he stops to get gas or something to drink. One evening, Robert saw a television news story about a $50,000 winning ticket that was sold at the Sparky Mart where he had recently purchased tickets. He missed seeing the winning numbers, so he checked his tickets the next morning and was excited to see he matched four out of five numbers and the Powerball.
Robert wasn’t sure how much he won and took the ticket to a nearby gas station to ask the clerk to scan it for him. When the clerk told him he would need to go to the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office to claim his winnings, Robert was surprised. After studying his ticket for a minute, Robert and the clerk realized he won $50,000!
When asked how he felt at that moment, Robert exclaimed, “Happy!”
Robert plans to invest his winnings and may use a little of it to take his grandchildren to an amusement park one last time before the summer ends.
