Muhammad Salmen Farooq called his wife in disbelief after winning $50,000 on a Powerball® ticket. 

Muhammad was helping a friend move from their home state of Michigan to Bloomington, Ind., to attend Indiana University. As the two drove, it started to rain. With the back of the pickup truck exposed, they stopped at a Walmart in Fort Wayne to buy a tarp to cover the bed of the truck. 

While in the store, Muhammad’s friend suggested they buy Powerball tickets since the jackpot was well over $500 million. The friends purchased their tickets and continued on their way to Bloomington. The next morning, Muhammad’s friend banged on his door to wake him up and told him to check his ticket. Muhammad couldn’t believe it – he’d won $50,000! 

Muhammad returned home to Michigan to share his good news with his family, and they all traveled to the Hoosier Lottery’s Prize Payment Office in Indianapolis to claim his prize. 

Muhammad plans to pay bills with the prize money and take a birthday trip next month to Buffalo, NY.
