One Chicago man’s trip into Indiana for groceries and gas led to a $75,000 Top Prize win. 

Because he lives close to the Illinois/Indiana border, he regularly drives over the state line to run errands in Hammond. While in Indiana, he likes to purchase Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs. 

On one such trip, he purchased a couple $5 Cash Surge Scratch-offs. As he and his cousin sat in the car, he scratched the QR code on each ticket and scanned them. After scanning the first ticket, the screen displayed a message stating he would need to contact the Hoosier Lottery to claim his prize.

“I knew I won a lot,” he said. 

Excited to find out how much he won, he scratched the rest of the ticket. His eyes widened in shock, and he quickly showed his cousin the ticket. 

“No way!” she exclaimed upon seeing the $75,000 Top Prize. 

The winner plans to put his prize money toward starting his own business.
