Daniel Mountcastle lives in the tiny town of Atlanta, about 40 miles north of Indianapolis. Most days he stops at the same Casey’s on his way to his second shift job at Graham Packaging to get a drink and a few Hoosier Lottery tickets.
When he stopped at Casey’s one Friday afternoon to get a coffee, the clerk told him someone had won $50,000 on a Powerball® ticket purchased at that store. Even though Daniel had recently purchased Powerball tickets at that location, it didn’t occur to him that he could have the winning ticket. “I just thought, ‘Wow, that’s nice that someone won’. But I never thought it could be me,” he said.
Daniel was on his way to work, so he didn’t check his tickets right away. In fact, it was two days later when he started scanning the tickets he had. He was surprised to see a message on the Hoosier Lottery app stating that he won and would need to go to the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office to claim his prize. When Daniel looked up how much he won, he was thrilled to learn he had the winning $50,000 ticket the Casey’s clerk told him about!
“Look what I did!” he yelled to his wife. “Oh no!” she cried. “Did you buy another tool?” (Daniel has a habit of buying tools even when he doesn’t need any.) “No,” he happily replied, “I think I just won $50,000!” His wife was very happy to learn Daniel had won and that he hadn’t purchased any more tools!
Daniel plans to use some of his winnings for a family vacation and will save the rest.
