Vanessa Johnson loves her job. She has been a bus driver for Hamilton Southeastern Schools for 16 years. She also enjoys playing the Hoosier Lottery, both Scratch-offs and Draw games.

One day, the Noblesville resident was sitting at a stop light and observed the sky-blue car in front of her. She admired the color and how clean it was and then noticed the license plate number – 1917. “Those will be the numbers I play today,” Vanessa said to herself. She then stopped at a Meijer gas station and bought a Daily 4 ticket.

Later that evening, Vanessa fell asleep watching her favorite nightly game shows. Around 1 a.m. she woke up and checked her ticket. When she realized that she won $10,000, she ran back and forth in her apartment cheering as quietly as she could so she wouldn’t wake her neighbors.

Though it was late, Vanessa called her son and left him a voicemail telling him about her win. The next morning, her son called back and said, “Mom, you called me playin’ last night!” It took some convincing, but her son finally believed his mom’s big win.

Vanessa plans to pay bills with the prize money and perhaps purchase new boots or a purse for herself.
