Hoosier Lottery player matches four-of-five numbers and the Powerball 
Barbara and Gary Kirkwood play Powerball^® every week; it’s a weekend routine for these Hoosiers. They normally only play on Saturday night, but that changes when the jackpot gets large and excitement builds leading into each drawing. Playing on Wednesday, January 20, turned out to be a good decision for this couple.  

Barbara purchased a Powerball ticket at Fast Break #5 in Evansville for the $750 million jackpot. Gary was the one who grabbed the ticket as the drawing was taking place Wednesday night. Barbara watched as he shouted out—1 number, 2 numbers, 3 numbers—Gary grabbed his chest. Barbara didn’t know what to think, was he having a heart attack? “Barb, we have 4 numbers!–AND we have the Powerball number! Hey, I think we might have won something!” They were so excited as they tried to figure out how to double check their numbers. They sat down and laughed and laughed, as they discovered they were just one number away from that huge jackpot. “Winning $50,000 is a blessing for us. We plan to do some traveling and invest in some hobbies that will keep us busy once we both finally retire.”
