Cynthia Elston works as a front desk clerk at a hotel in Bloomington. She loves playing Scratch-offs and stopped at a Village Pantry to get gas and pick up a few tickets one day. While the gas was pumping, Cynthia began scratching her two $30 Extreme Cash Scratch-offs. When she got to her second ticket, she saw she won the game's top prize of $50,000.
“I ran right back into the store to ask the clerk to scan it,” she said. He scanned it and told Cynthia she really had won. “I suddenly couldn’t breathe and started crying,” she said. “I asked him to scan it again, and then just kept saying, ‘Are you kidding? Are you kidding?’”
When the clerk told her she would have to go to the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office in Indianapolis to claim her prize, Cynthia quickly looked up the address and started driving toward Indianapolis. “I was so scared I would lose the ticket or something would happen to it,” she said.
Cynthia didn’t tell anyone at first because she thought it might not be real. After claiming her prize, she plans to tell her family and to help her children and grandchildren with her winnings.
