Auburn resident Scott Howey occasionally plays Powerball®, typically buying tickets when he stops for gas. One evening he stopped to get gas and something to drink at Speedway and bought a Powerball ticket.
A couple days later, Scott saw a news story about a $50,000 Powerball ticket that was sold in Auburn. “That’s when I remembered the ticket I left in my truck,” said Scott. He ran out to his truck to see if his ticket was a winner and was shocked to see he matched four out of five numbers plus the Powerball.
Wanting to make sure he really had won $50,000, Scott went to Speedway and asked the clerk to scan his ticket. Sure enough, it was a winner.
Scott immediately called his dad to share the good news and joked with his dad that he should write a song called “One Number Away” because he missed hitting the jackpot by one number.
For now, Scott plans to put his winnings in savings.
