Last year, $30 million of the Lottery revenue was directed to local police and firefighters' pensions.
When Lucinda Totleben stopped for a quick bite with her husband Clarence at Schoop’s Hamburgers in Munster, she had no idea it would lead to a $50,000 Powerball prize. The couple visited the Cigarette Discount Outlet next door and purchased a Quick Pick ticket on a whim.
Clarence later read Lucinda the winning numbers in their living room, and she jumped out of her chair with excitement. Clarence stated that in thirty years of marriage, it was the “first time I ever saw her freak out.”
The couple plan to pay off some bills with the prize, as well as help Clarence to retire at an earlier age.
