Union laborer Gregory Floyd started playing Powerball® a few months ago. The Kokomo resident had been a regular player at one time but hadn’t played for a number of years.
When he stopped at Speedway to get gas one day, he took his Powerball tickets inside to have the clerk scan them. When the clerk told him one of the tickets was a winner and that Gregory would need to go to the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office to claim his prize, Gregory was shocked.
“I didn’t know how much I won,” said Gregory. “I thought I only hit three numbers and the Powerball.”
Later that night Gregory checked his ticket again and was even more shocked when he realized he actually matched four numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000! He told his wife and she thought he had to be joking. When Gregory showed her the ticket, she was thrilled. The couple’s 6-month-old grandson was asleep in the next room, so Gregory and his wife celebrated very quietly. “We couldn’t hoot and holler,” said Gregory, “but we cheered as quietly as we could!”
Gregory plans to use some of his prize money to help a few family members and will put the rest in savings.
