A train conductor from Highland said it was “very exciting” to win $1 million on Powerball.
George Orona had not played Powerball in a few months. He decided on a whim to use $10 in his pocket to buy $10 in Powerball Quick Picks while at Meijer, 10138 Indianapolis Blvd, Highland. He won $1 million in the June 13, 2018 drawing by matching 5 numbers. But, he didn’t realize it right away.
George found the ticket in his pocket while doing laundry a few days after the drawing. He stopped at a gas station on his way to work to check the ticket. The clerk checked the ticket, and he ran outside to check it again himself. He rushed home to tell his family, and no one believed him at first.
He brought family when he drove to Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis to claim his prize.
George wants to make the prize money last so he can retire early. Some of his plans for the money include paying off his house and car.
