Tina Weatherwax of Peru is one of 10 semi-finalists who will vie for the chance to win a VIP trip for two to the NASCAR Championship Weekend in Miami, Nov. 6-8, and the chance to win $1 million during a special drawing televised live from the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race on Sunday, Nov. 8.

The “NASCAR Powerball – The Chase to $1 Million” promotion is a partnership between Powerball^® and NASCAR in which one semi-finalist from each of the 25 participating state lotteries was drawn to compete in a series of drawings inspired by NASCAR’s championship format. 

Each of the 10 semi-finalists has the opportunity to be one of four finalists who will win the trip to Miami and the chance to win $1 million. The results of that drawing will be announced during the Xfinity 500 on Nov. 1. The six semi-finalists who do not advance will each receive $10,000 in prizes they had accumulated from each round of the promotion.

“I was shocked when I found out I’m a semi-finalist,” Weatherwax said. “I told all my friends that I'm winning the million dollars! I'm all about packing a bag and heading to Miami."

Weatherwax is a big racing fan and especially loves NASCAR. She has attended the Brickyard 400 several times, including the very first year, as well as a number of Indianapolis 500s. 

“But getting to travel to Miami and go to Championship Weekend would be amazing,” she said.

From March 19 through June 15, Indiana residents entered by visiting HoosierLottery.com/NASCAR and signing up or confirming their myLOTTERY membership. Once the promotion period ended, one grand prize winner and three secondary winners were drawn. As the grand prize winner, in addition to entry into The Chase, Weatherwax received two VIP infield passes to the Brickyard 400 race weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 24-26, a VIP tour of the garages and a meet and greet with driver Chase Briscoe. The secondary winners also won the VIP tour and driver meet and greet, as well as a Hoosier Lottery Prize Pack.

“Given Indiana’s rich racing tradition, this promotion is especially exciting,” said Sarah M. Taylor, Hoosier Lottery Executive Director. “We will be cheering on Tina and are anxious to find out whether Indiana will have a new millionaire on November 8.”

The VIP trip experience will include roundtrip airfare for two to Miami, three nights hotel accommodations, two Ally Pit Box passes for the NASCAR Championship weekend, two passes for VIP experiences at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the NASCAR Championship Weekend including NASCAR Cup Series™ VIP access, NASCAR team hauler tour, MRN radio booth tour, pace car rides, Victory Lane access, all meals and ground transportation to scheduled events and activities.

Past semi-finalists from Indiana include Tosha Tomlinson of Anderson, who won $7,500 in 2024, and Donald Pope of Michigan City, who advanced to the final four in 2023 and won the VIP trip to Championship Weekend in Phoenix and the chance to win $1 million during a live televised drawing. Although he did not win the $1 million prize, Pope walked away with $10,000.
