During the historic $1.8 billion Powerball® jackpot—the second largest jackpot in U.S. Lottery history—which was won during the Christmas Eve drawing on a single ticket sold in Arkansas, Hoosiers won nearly $10 million, highlighted by 32 wins of $50,000 or more.
Several big wins have been claimed in Indiana this week.
Monday a Terre Haute man claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment Office in downtown Indianapolis. Brock plays Hoosier Lottery Draw games when the jackpot is above $100 million. He was hauling Christmas trash to the dumpster when he stopped his truck and took a moment to check his Powerball ticket. He scanned it, saw a message that it was too large to cash at a retailer and thought he probably had won $1,000. After looking at the ticket for a few minutes, though, Brock realized he had added Power Play® to his ticket and had won $100,000! He plans to use his winnings to either help purchase a new home or make updates to his current one.
The $100,000 winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store #39 located at 1840 E. Jessica Dr. in Terre Haute.
Another Powerball prize was also claimed Monday. Patrick was born and raised in Indiana but now lives in Georgia. While home visiting family for Christmas, Patrick and his siblings each received Hoosier Lottery tickets in their stockings—it’s a fun holiday tradition for the adults in his family. When Patrick looked up the winning numbers and realized his ticket matched several, he knew he must have won a significant prize but didn’t know how much he may have won. After some Internet searching, Patrick and his family found the Hoosier Lottery app and scanned his ticket. Seeing a message that the prize was too large to cash at a retailer, they did a little more Internet sleuthing and found that Patrick won $50,000. Patrick delayed his flight home so he could stay and claim his prize and enjoy more time with family. Patrick plans to invest the prize money, but not before treating his mother to something special first.
The $50,000 winning ticket was purchased at Mapco #189 located at 6416 E. State Road 334 in Whitestown.
The winning Powerball numbers for Wednesday, Dec. 24, are: 4-25-31-52-59 with the Powerball of 19 and Power Play of 2X.
