Debra Wourms and her husband have three adult daughters, and Debra stays busy babysitting her grandchildren. Whenever Debra’s husband buys Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs, he also buys two for Debra and two for their youngest daughter.
He recently bought Debra two $10 Chrome Scratch-offs, but their daughter was the one who scratched the tickets since they were laying in a stack with the ones her dad had purchased for her. She originally thought the ticket was a non-winner, but she went ahead and scanned it using the Hoosier Lottery mobile app—just to be sure. When she realized the ticket was a $10,000 winner, she was thrilled for her mom.
She immediately showed her mom the ticket, but Debra’s first response to finding out one of her tickets was a winner was to blurt out, “Hey! You scratched my ticket!”
Next, Debra called her middle daughter to tell her the good news and let her know she wouldn’t be able to watch the grandkids that day because she had to drive to Indianapolis to claim her winnings. Hearing that, her daughter jokingly said, “Okay, but you’re paying for afterschool care today!”
Debra admits her family probably needs to work on how they react to exciting news, but all her daughters were very happy for their mom.
Debra plans to put her winnings in the bank.
