Branden Helms of Terre Haute stays pretty busy raising his young family and working as a mechanic for the Army National Guard. Every now and then he plays Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs for fun.

Having won a few dollars on a couple of Scratch-offs, Branden was headed to the gas station near his house to cash those in. On his way out of the house, he told his wife he would pick up another Scratch-off while he was there and she hollered, “Buy more than one!”

Branden did exactly that, purchasing two $5 Money Bags. Once home, he scratched the tickets and was thrilled when the second ticket revealed the top prize win of $10,000! Because Branden likes to joke about winning big, his wife didn’t believe him when he first told her he won. After examining the ticket, though, she was just as thrilled as he was.

Branden was excited and anxious to claim his winnings, but “I had [National Guard] drill all weekend, so I had to wait,” he said. “But I was in a great mood—nothing could make me mad all weekend,” he laughed.

Branden plans to use his winnings to take his family on vacation and will save the rest.
