Indianapolis resident wins $1 million from Powerball^®

Virginia Beavo from Indianapolis became a first-time winner and the Hoosier Lottery’s most recent $1 million Powerball^® winner.

She purchased her ticket in Indianapolis at her local Speedway located at 1005 N. Mitthoeffer. Virginia is a fan of Draw Games and only purchases Mega Millions® and Powerball tickets. Virginia purchases five tickets of both Mega Millions and Powerball each week in honor of her five grandchildren. Virginia purchases only Quick Picks as she prefers to not choose her own numbers. On this purchase, Virginia had her husband go in and buy her sets of tickets.

“When I found out I won I was feeling frustrated about something so silly that I don’t even remember what I was frustrated about. Then I remember going out to mow the lawn, but the lawn mower wouldn’t work. Then I decided to go inside and check my Powerball and Mega Millions tickets. My frustration went away very quickly.”

She looked at her first Powerball ticket and did not match any of the numbers. Then she went to check her second Powerball ticket. As she was viewing numbers on the second ticket, she noticed she matched the first two numbers, and then she kept continuing to match the other numbers. Virginia was convinced that her eyes were playing tricks on her. She immediately went upstairs to ask her granddaughter to look at her ticket to see if she was reading it correctly. Her granddaughter looked at the ticket and said, “Grandma, you matched five numbers.” Virginia ran into her bedroom where her husband was sleeping after working his night shift and she woke him up exclaiming she matched the numbers! He woke up and said, “Oh really? That’s cool” and fell back asleep. It is a moment they keep laughing about together. 

Virginia and her husband have no major plans for the prize money, opting to take in the thought of the win before making any other decisions. There focus is simply continuing to enjoy life.
