Winner Stories
Calvin Thomas lives in the tiny town of Howe, about 30 miles east of Elkhart. He stays pretty busy as a senior service technician at an RV manufacturer and as the handyman that all his friends and relatives call upon when they need something repaired. To add a little fun to his day, he likes to play Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs.
On his way home from work one day, he purchased a $10 $5,000 Frenzy Multiplier and sat in his truck scratching it. He uncovered a winning number and began to scratch its prize amount.
“I saw three zeroes and a comma and was excited to think I won $1,000,” Calvin recalled.
But when he uncovered the rest of the prize, he was shocked to see he actually won the $250,000 Top Prize! Calvin ran back into the store to show his ticket to the clerk. “Tell me I’m not crazy,” he said. “That’s $250,000, right??”
Once the clerk had scanned the ticket and confirmed his win, Calvin went back out to his truck to call his wife and share the good news.
“When I walked back to my truck, I realized that, in all my excitement, I had left the truck’s door hanging wide open,” Calvin laughed.
Calvin and his wife plan to use the winnings to build a new house.
