When severe weather swept through Indianapolis just before the Fourth of July, Lorenzo B. and his wife lost power at their house. They ended up being without electricity for six days. After dealing with the lack of power for a few days, Lorenzo needed to get out of the house.

That night, he decided to go to the gas station and convenience store near his house to purchase some Powerball® tickets for that night’s drawing. “It was 10 minutes before the drawing closed, so I almost didn’t go, but I really needed to get out of the house,” said Lorenzo.

Later that night, Lorenzo opened the Hoosier Lottery app to scan his tickets. When he scanned the fourth ticket, it showed he won $50,000. He then showed his wife the ticket, saying, “Don’t get excited, but look what I won.” When she saw the amount, she couldn’t help but get excited.

Lorenzo plans to use his winnings to pay bills and replace everything they lost due to the power outage.
