A Merrillville woman likes to play Powerball® to add a little fun to her week. She was running errands one day when she stopped at a gas station in nearby Highland to get gas and a couple of Powerball tickets. Once home, she placed them with a few other tickets she had purchased over the past week.

Three weeks later, her husband sat down to check the small stack of tickets that had accumulated. He scanned each ticket in the stack using the Hoosier Lottery’s app and was surprised to see a message stating they would need to contact the Hoosier Lottery to claim their prize. “Come here!” he yelled to his wife.

Thinking something must be wrong, she rushed into the room. “What’s wrong?!” she exclaimed.

Her husband showed her the app’s screen, and her worry quickly turned to joy.

“We didn’t even know how much we won,” she recalled. “We had to look it up.”

After a quick online search, they realized she had won $50,000! 

The couple plans to put the prize money in savings.
