Tobi Davis of Indianapolis has a rewarding job driving a bus for IndyGo’s paratransit service that helps those with disabilities get where they need to go. After work one day, she stopped to buy some Scratch-offs and saw that a new game was available. She bought a couple of the $10 Extreme Green Scratch-offs and went home to make dinner for her granddaughter. Later that evening when she scratched her tickets, she thought she won $2.

“I saw the 2 and thought I won $2, but then I saw a 0 and thought I won $20,” Tobi said. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw $200,000!”

Wanting to make sure she really won, Tobi scanned the ticket with the Hoosier Lottery app. When it also showed that she won the game’s top prize, she ran down the hallway to wake up her son who was napping on the couch. Not wanting to wake any of the neighbors in her apartment building, Tobi tried to whisper her news to her son. When that didn’t work, she excitedly shook him awake while very loudly whispering “I won! I won!” Her son was so startled that he fell off the couch! As he lay on the floor telling her to calm down, Tobi showed him the screen on the app, and he exclaimed, “Mama, you did win!” Next, she called her daughter, who also didn’t believe it. But once Tobi’s son got on the phone and told his sister it was true, she was very happy for Tobi.

Tobi plans to put her winnings in savings for now. “I really need to let this all sink in,” she said. “But I do know I want to help others. I want to do something like buy blankets and warm clothes for those who are homeless and find ways to help them. And I am definitely going to keep doing what I’m doing—driving my bus and helping people get to their appointments.”
