As a retiree, Dickie Hardwick of Indianapolis fills his time with yardwork and taking care of his rescue dog—a teacup Yorkie named Sookie. He also plays the Hoosier Lottery as a way to add a little fun to his day.

During a grocery run to Walmart, Dickie purchased a $10 Chrome Scratch-off. Once he was home, he scratched the QR code and scanned it using the Hoosier Lottery’s app. When he saw a message stating his prize was too large for a retailer to cash, Dickie was intrigued. “This might be a good win,” he thought.

As he scratched the rest of the ticket, he wasn’t seeing any matches with the winning numbers. He figured he probably won $1,000 but took another look at the ticket and was shocked to see he actually won $10,000!

Dickie plans to use his winnings to purchase a new stove for his girlfriend’s daughter and will put the rest in savings.
