A Terre Haute man wasted no time claiming the $1,561,000 CA$H 5 jackpot he won. His winning ticket hit the jackpot the night of Feb. 20, 2019 and he was at Hoosier Lottery headquarters the following morning to claim his prize.
Daniel C. and his wife had been up much of the night after discovering the win. Daniel plays CA$H 5 almost daily, always purchasing his tickets from Casey’s.
“Usually I check them in the morning, and last night I thought, ‘I’m going to check it before I go to bed,’” Daniel said.
He immediately told his wife, and they checked over the ticket and the winning numbers multiple times.
“This can’t be happening,” his wife recalled saying.
They waited until the Hoosier Lottery’s website updated to show the next day’s CA$H 5 jackpot, which reset to $75,000, the starting jackpot.
“It must be real,” Daniel said he thought when he saw the website change.
Daniel is retired from the Indiana Air National Guard in Terre Haute. He and his wife were still deciding what to do with their prize money, as they wanted to meet with a financial adviser. They are considering paying off their house.
Daniel purchased the winning ticket at Casey’s, 7279 S. State Road 46 in Riley, Indiana.
CA$H 5 is the only Hoosier Lottery daily Draw game with a rolling jackpot. The jackpot starts at $75,000 and increases by at least $5,000 every day until someone matches all five numbers.
