Scratch-off reveals $10,000 top prize for recent retiree
Carl Reece retired about four months ago from his warehouse job at Cargill and has been enjoying his freedom away from work. After playing the Hoosier Lottery recently Carl gained another reason to smile, as he won the $10,000 top prize playing the $2 Holiday Cash Scratch-off.
“I had $10 in Scratch-off winnings in my pocket and went ahead and turned them in to buy additional tickets at the Village Pantry,” recalls Carl. He picked the new seasonal tickets because he likes the design. “After scratching the ticket, it didn’t look right. I looked at it about three times. I thought it must be a misprint. Then I walked out to my truck and called my wife. I was screaming inside.” He knew he had a winner.
Upon reaching his wife he asked how her day was going. “She said ‘alright.’ Then I said, ‘I’ll make your day for you!’” He was right. After telling her the news, his wife responded, “I feel great!”
“I like to play the Hoosier Lottery in hopes of winning,” said Carl. “This is the largest amount I’ve ever won.” Previously he has won $1,000 on a couple occasions playing the Hoosier Lottery.
Carl and his wife plan to use the funds to tend to the house, buy a new couch, pay some bills and surprise their two adult kids.
