Powerball’s estimated jackpot increases to $1.4 billion for tonight’s drawing; ranks as 4th largest jackpot in game history and 6th largest in U.S. lottery history.

Today, a group of family and friends from the Fort Wayne-area claimed a $2 million Powerball^® prize at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment Office in downtown Indianapolis.

The group doesn’t typically play the lottery together, but they had all pitched in to help fix up the house of one member’s daughter. As they were working, they began discussing the Powerball jackpot that had recently topped $1 billion. The homeowner’s father is a regular Hoosier Lottery player and suggested they all pitch in to buy a Powerball ticket with Power Play^®. The group pooled their money, and the dad purchased the ticket.

The father stayed up late on Saturday night awaiting the Powerball drawing. Upon seeing the winning numbers, he celebrated with loud, joyous screams. The homeowner heard the racket and went upstairs to find her dad, who quickly shared they had won $2 million! The duo immediately began calling the rest of the family and friends who had contributed to the ticket to tell them the good news.

Even though it was late, everyone came to the house to discuss and celebrate the win. They had matched all five white balls, only missing the Powerball, and with the Power Play option the prize automatically doubled to $2 million. The group ended up staying up until 3 a.m. due to the excitement. They decided to claim their prize today because it’s the dad's birthday.

Members of the group have various plans for the prize money, including using it to pay off student loans, a down payment on a house, a new truck for their dad, home renovations and savings for the son's soon-to-be-born baby. The group was also planning to go out for a celebratory lunch after claiming their winnings.

The $2 million winning ticket was purchased at B.K.D. Marathon at 3208 E. Coliseum Blvd. in Fort Wayne.

The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday, Aug. 30, are: 3-18-22-27-33 with the Powerball of 17 and Power Play of 3X.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot increases to $1.4 billion

The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday, Sept. 3, is now an estimated $1.4 billion. This is the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot in game history and the sixth-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

The Powerball jackpot has been won four times in 2025, with the most recent win on May 31 when a single ticket sold in California won the $204.5 million jackpot. Indiana had the very first Powerball jackpot winner in 1992 and leads the nation in Powerball jackpot wins with 39. The most recent win in Indiana was $435 million on February 22, 2017. The largest Powerball jackpot win in history was $2.04 billion on Nov. 7, 2022.

Players have until 10:39 p.m., ET, to get their tickets for the 11 p.m., ET, drawing.  Players can purchase a $2 Powerball ticket at any participating retailer. Players also can add Power Play for $1.
