The Athletic Club Foundation, in partnership with the Hoosier Lottery, hosted the Hoosier Lottery St. Patrick's Day Kickoff Celebration at the Downtown Indy Canal Walk on Thursday. The event served as the official start to St. Patrick's Day festivities in Indianapolis. A link to the b-roll footage from the event is available here and can be downloaded from Vimeo.
A ceremonial pouring of green dye took place and firefighters from Indianapolis Fire Department and Station 13 helped turn the canal green. The event also featured live entertainment and remarks from local dignitaries including Mayor Joe Hogsett, the 2023 Irish Citizen of the Year John J. Quinn and Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Sarah M. Taylor. Taylor recognized police, firefighters and teacher representatives in attendance. Since the sale of the first ticket on October 13,1989, the Hoosier Lottery has provided $7 billion to worthy causes including local police and firefighters' pensions, the Teachers' Retirement Fund and the Lottery Surplus Fund.
The Athletic Club Foundation honored the late Indiana Governor Joe Kernan during the 2023 Indianapolis St. Patrick's Day celebration with the presentation of the inaugural Taioseach Award. The Irish Gaelic word "Taioseach" means "Chief" or "Leader" in English. The Taoiseach Award will be bestowed periodically by the IACF to honor the memory of past Irish American leaders in the community.The award was presented to Governor Kernan's family during the St. Patrick's Day Kickoff Celebration today.
The St. Patrick's Day celebrations are the Athletic Club Foundation's biggest fundraisers of the year. Proceeds from the events will directly support the Foundation's efforts to help local youth by investing in amateur athletic programs in Indiana.
