Yesterday a man from Carmel claimed the $583,000 CA$H 5 jackpot at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment Office in downtown Indianapolis. 

The man said the day of the drawing was a typical Sunday for him. He took a bike ride, mowed his lawn and then purchased tickets at a local Speedway for the nightly CA$H 5 drawing. The next evening, he returned to the same store to scan his tickets from the previous night’s drawing and purchase a few for the Monday night drawing.

When he scanned his ticket on the Hoosier Lottery self-service machine, he received a message stating he would need to contact the Hoosier Lottery to claim his prize.

Knowing he won something but not sure how much, the man went home and looked up the winning numbers. He couldn’t believe it when he saw he matched all five numbers and won the $583,000 jackpot!

“It was surreal,” he said. “I definitely didn’t sleep that night.”

The retiree plans to use his winnings to make a few updates to his house and will put the rest in savings.

The $583,000 jackpot winning ticket was purchased at Speedway #6629 located at 1708 E. 116th St. in Carmel.
