Kevin Kernek of Evansville likes to play Draw games, especially when a jackpot reaches large amounts. One Sunday morning, he was running errands and stopped to buy a few CA$H 5 tickets for that night’s drawing.

Kevin and his wife both went to bed before the Sunday night drawing, but Kevin woke up around 1 a.m. and decided to take a quick peek at his phone to see whether he had matched any numbers before going back to sleep.

When he saw the winning numbers and realized he matched them all to win the jackpot, he said, “My heart started racing and I just kept saying, ‘Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!’ My wife woke up and thought I was having a panic attack or heart attack!”

When he finally caught his breath, Kevin told her he just won the $984,500 CA$H 5 jackpot. His wife was stunned and very excited.

They then scanned the ticket using the Hoosier Lottery app to make sure it was a winner. “I knew I would never be able to fall back to sleep, so I just stayed up all night,” he said.

Kevin is a pathologist currently contracted to work at Deaconess Hospital. He plans to use his winnings to pay off his car and possibly purchase a new house.
