Winner Stories
For Sonya Ingram of Bedford, retirement is anything but slow paced. She enjoys spending her time outdoors gardening, doing yard work and staying busy. She and her husband are also in the middle of restoring a 1969 Ford Torino GT Fastback.
Another part of their retirement routine is playing Hoosier Lottery games, which they say adds a little excitement to their day.
Sonya recently won a $50,000 Powerball® prize with a ticket she purchased at Quick Stop on 16th Street in Bedford, a retailer she says she regularly visits to buy her tickets.
Her favorite Hoosier Lottery games are Draw games, especially Powerball. Over the years, she has won smaller prizes like $50 and $500, but nothing as large as this.
She discovered the winning ticket while checking it at home using the Hoosier Lottery app.
“You go through the years just playing for fun, never thinking you’ll actually win,” Sonya said. “When I realized I had won, it was hard to believe it had really happened.”
Sonya double-checked the ticket several times before bringing it to the retailer to confirm
the win. After that, she called the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office to verify the win.
“At first, the app just told me to visit the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office, she said. “When I called and found out the amount, I screamed. I couldn’t believe it.”
Her husband was the first person she told about the exciting news.
Looking ahead, Sonya plans to place most of the winnings in savings and use a portion to help fund the couple’s restoration of their ‘69 Torino.
