As the Powerball® jackpot continues to rise to historic levels, Hoosier Lottery Powerball players continue to play and win. This week’s drawings alone resulted in over 200,000 winning tickets valued at more than $3.5M and produced one $2 million winner, three $150,000 winners and seven $50,000 winners in Indiana.
Two of those big winning ticket claims occurred this week at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment Office in downtown Indianapolis.
Mother and daughter from Porter County claim $150,000 Powerball with Power Play® prize today
Valparaiso resident Robin had heard the recent buzz about the Powerball jackpot growing and asked her mom, Helen, if she would like to purchase some tickets together for the next drawing. Robin suggested they each contribute $20, and the women pooled their money for the Sept. 1 drawing, agreeing that they would split any winnings. Helen purchased the tickets, adding Power Play to each one, as the women had agreed to do.
The morning after the drawing, Robin checked the winning numbers and was shocked to see that one of their tickets had matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball. With the Power Play of 3X, the mother-daughter duo won $150,000! Robin called Helen to share the good news, and the two excitedly made plans to travel to Indianapolis to claim their winnings. The women both plan to save and invest their winnings—after treating the whole family to a celebratory dinner.
The $150,000 winning ticket was purchased at Strack & Van Til #8748 located at 1600 Pioneer Trail in Chesterton.
Fort Wayne resident Girma Amtachew claimed a $150,000 Powerball with Power Play prize
Girma Amtachew is a regular Hoosier Lottery player who typically only plays Scratch-offs, but once Powerball topped $1 billion he decided to purchase a ticket with Power Play for the Sept. 1 drawing.
The morning after the drawing, Amtachew scanned his Powerball ticket using the Hoosier Lottery app and received a message that the prize amount was too large to cash at a retailer. Filled with excitement, he and his daughter rushed to the Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis to claim the prize—still not knowing how much he won.
When the Hoosier Lottery representative told him he had won $150,000, Amtachew’s first words were “I don’t believe it!” He plans to meet with his family to decide how to spend the prize money.
The $150,000 winning ticket was purchased at Maysville Marathon located at 9501 Maysville Rd. in Fort Wayne.
The winning Powerball numbers for Monday, Sept. 1, are: 8-23-25-40-53 with the Powerball of 5 and Power Play of 3X.
