Series of fluke choices results in $50,000 win
An Indianapolis woman won a $50,000 Powerball® with Power Play® prize after a string of unusual events and decisions put the winning ticket in her hand. Tonya Ellinger had just eaten dinner with her father on Saturday, June 4 when he decided to buy a Powerball ticket. Due to severe storms that had just blown through Indianapolis, the electricity was out at the first place he stopped to purchase a ticket. The pair ventured down the street, passing several retailers that were still without power. After going farther than they intended to, they finally came to a retailer with power – Village Pantry at 6014 East Washington Street. Even though she already had a ticket for that night’s draw, Ellinger decided she might as well purchase another ticket since they had travelled so far in their quest to find a store with power. Even though she almost always selects her own numbers, Ellinger decided to purchase a quick pick for some reason that night. Straying even further from her normal routine, Ellinger also said “yes” when the clerk asked her if she wanted to add the Power Play multiplier. All of those unusual decisions together resulted in a windfall that will allow her to pay off her house and provide extra financial security for her family. Read more of Tonya's story here.
