Fort Wayne woman wins $40,000 in record Powerball® run
It didn’t take one Hoosier long to claim her winnings from last night’s record-setting Powerball drawing. Barbara Wright of Fort Wayne walked into Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis shortly after the doors opened this morning and presented a Powerball ticket worth $40,000 to Lottery officials.
Barbara matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number. She increased her winnings by adding Power Play® to her ticket for an extra dollar. It was only the second time Barbara had opted to spend the extra dollar to add Power Play - and it made all the difference, $30,000 difference to be exact. That one extra dollar increased her winnings from $10,000 to $40,000.
Barbara said the extra cash in the bank will allow her to “have a nice Christmas,” pay off all her financial obligations and put a down payment on a car. If there is any left over, she and her husband hope to upgrade their next annual vacation. The couple are avid hunters and fishermen who hope to splurge on either a bear hunting trip to Wyoming or a fishing trip to the Florida Keys.
