Frequently Asked Questions: COVID-19

How can I redeem winning tickets?

For prizes under $600, you can either redeem your winning ticket at a Hoosier Lottery retailer or claim your prize by mail. (We suggest contacting the retailer, as some may have changed store hours and/or redemption policies during the current health emergency).

Our Prize Payment offices are now open to the public for in-person claims of $600 or more. Please note that due to limited space and current health protocols, some players may need to wait in line outside of the building. The Hoosier Lottery continues to encourage players to claim prizes via mail.

To claim prizes of $600 or more, please refer to our How To Claim page for complete details.

What precautions are being taken to ensure the health of players and Hoosier Lottery employees at Prize Payment Centers?

In following our state mandate and for the health and safety of our players and employees, all visitors to our Prize Payment Centers will be required to wear a face mask. All visitors to our Prize Payment Centers will see this sign and will be asked the following self-screening questions:
  • Have you had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 14 days?
  • Are you currently ill? Do you have symptoms of a cold, cough, or shortness of breath? Have you temporarily lost your sense of taste or smell?
  • Do you currently have a fever or have you had a fever within the past week?
If the visitor answers yes to any of these questions, they will not be permitted to enter the building and will be provided alternative options to claim their prize. Social distancing guidelines will be followed at all locations and hand sanitizer will be provided. Physical barriers such as plexiglass screens or sneeze guards will be used where available and appropriate.

With some businesses closed, where can I buy Hoosier Lottery tickets?

Hoosier Lottery retailers may still sell lottery tickets, at their discretion. We encourage players to consider the following ways to play responsibly:
  • Please practice social distancing and don’t stay in the store to scratch your ticket
  • Use the digital playslips feature on the Hoosier Lottery app
  • Use quick pick for selecting numbers rather than filling out a paper playslip
  • Use the Mobile App to scan and check tickets
  • To redeem winning tickets, consider claiming your prize via mail

Will the COVID-19 pandemic impact the drawings for any Hoosier Lottery games?

All Hoosier Lottery game drawings will continue to occur as scheduled. Results may be found on the Hoosier Lottery website or via the Hoosier Lottery mobile app

Why hasn’t the Hoosier Lottery stopped selling lottery tickets? Isn’t it unsafe for people to be going to stores to buy lottery tickets?

Our players, retailers, employees, and communities across the state remain our top priority, as they always have. We continue to follow the guidelines and orders issued by the Governor. We encourage all Hoosier Lottery players to consider the following ways to play responsibly:
  • Please practice social distancing and don’t stay in the store to scratch your ticket
  • Use the digital playslips feature on the Hoosier Lottery app
  • Use quick pick for selecting numbers rather than filling out a paper playslip
  • Use the Mobile App to scan and check tickets
  • To redeem winning tickets, consider claiming your prize via mail

What if I was unable to redeem my winning ticket before the 180-day claim period expired due to the previous Stay-at-Home order?

The Hoosier Lottery has extended the deadline for redeeming certain winning Hoosier Lottery tickets an additional sixty (60) days beyond the 180 days allowed by statute. You can also redeem winning tickets up to $99,999 via mail.

Below are the games that have been extended, along with the new Last Claim Date:
  • The Wizard of Oz (#2274) - 6/1/2020
  • $1,000,000 Blowout (#2258) - 6/1/2020
  • Lucky Tripler (#2310) - 6/29/2020

  • Cleopatra (#2289) - 6/29/2020
  • Hit 9 (#2272) - 6/29/2020

How long will it take to receive payment if claiming a prize by mail?

After following the instructions to claim your prize by mail, please allow approximately 7-10 business days to receive your check.

How will the COVID-19 pandemic impact the Hoosier Lottery funds designated for the State of Indiana and its beneficiaries?

Hoosier Lottery funds transferred to the State are directly related to sales of lottery tickets.  While a decrease in lottery sales will likely lead to a decrease in funds transferred to the State, the magnitude of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sales, and subsequent funds transferred to the State, is not yet known.
