Avon man wins $1 million playing Mega Millions®
Donald Gunn, a retired state auditor who lives in Avon won $1 million dollars playing Mega Millions. Donald enjoys Hoosier Lottery jackpot games and plays Mega Millions weekly. He always selects his own numbers—not for any particular reason—sticking with the same numbers for several months at a time.
Donald checks his tickets, usually every Sunday, by going on the Hoosier Lottery website. Upon checking his tickets on this occasion, Donald could not believe what his eyes were seeing. The numbers matched and indicated he won $1 million!
His wife was on the phone in the next room, and he yelled for her and asked if she could come look at what was going on with his computer. Per Donald, “I wanted to surprise her that way, but I also wanted a second set of eyes to look at my ticket just to make sure I was reading it right.” Donald’s wife was in disbelief and has stated, “I get more and more excited every day that passes.”
The first person they told was their daughter, who was very surprised and immediately said, “That is great dad!”
The Gunns are still waiting for this win to truly sink in. They do not have many plans for the prize money yet, though their focus is becoming debt-free and helping one of their grandchildren pay for college.
